McCown Gets Shown the Door

As most of you probably know by now, Josh McCown has been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McCown was regarded by many as being the top free agent QB of 2014, and many are already calling him the top free agent QB of 2015. If you were one of the many people who believed McCown finally figured out how to be successful in the NFL, you were greatly disappointed during the 2014 season.

McCown appeared in 11 games this season, throwing 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He completed just 56.3% of his passes while having a passer rating of 70.5.

That is not good.

All that McCown proved in 2014 is that he is a backup QB. While he may be a backup QB at best, he still may be the best QB on the market this offseason. While there are other intriguing options teams may be willing to take a risk on, such as Michael Vick, McCown is still a safe bet to be one of the league's best backups.

McCown could sign with a team that has a QB competition, but it is safe to say that it would not be in the best interest of the team or McCown. Expect McCown to find a home later on in free agency.
