DeForest Buckner stands tall at an intimidating 6'7" 300 lbs. As one can imagine, Buckner gets a lot of recognition due to his size. Unfortunately for him, his size ultimately leads to his downfall. Buckner struggles with leverage, like most players his size do. His lack of leverage tends to negate the things that he does well. In order for Buckner to succeed at the next level, he will need to learn more pass-rushing moves and he will have to get off of his blocks more often versus the run game.
While Buckner lacks a true pass-rushing repertoire, he uses his hands pretty well. He also does a great job of eating up blocks. He is pretty quick, especially for his size. Overall, Buckner is a bit raw, but the talent and upside are definitely there. He is a Round 2 prospect that will make some team very happy in the 2016 draft.
Last year, Arik Armstead got drafted by the 49ers in the first round. He was another player with size and potential that we had slated as a Round 2 prospect. Don't be surprised if a team falls in love with Buckner in this year's draft and selects him in the first round, too.
